“The Loveliest masterpiece of the heart of God is the heart of a mother.”

St. Therese of Lisieux

This Mother’s Day I would like mothers to remember the very important role that they play in their children’s lives. It is so easy these days in our interesting world to forget that it is a mother that carries a baby for 9 months in her womb. She cares for, feeds, and nurtures that baby while it grows, warm and snug. Pregnancy and childbirth are what mothers do. Each one is a special experience for mothers. Breastfeeding our babies is part of that wonderful experience of being a mother.

Every day we get endless opportunities to teach our children. Dr James Dobson (The founder of Focus on the Family) once said each moment spent with a child, is a teachable moment. That is indeed so true, as a teacher and a mom, I use these moments daily.

To celebrate Mother’s Day this year I thought I would share some beautiful poems with you that was written by mothers for mothers. Each poem describes a mother so clearly and gives us a moment to pause and just let the heartfelt words speak to our own hearts as we will all be able to relate to them. Grab a warm beverage and a cosy blanket and enjoy. If you do not yet have a child you will gain some insights to think about. If you are a mother you can relate so well and if you are a grandmother you will remember fond memories. Whatever season you are in, a poem speaks to our hearts.

Before I was a Mom

Before I was a Mom,
I made and ate hot meals.
I had unstained clothes.
I had quiet conversations on the phone.

Before I was a Mom,
I slept as late as I wanted
And never worried about how late I got to bed.
I brushed my hair and my teeth every day.

Before I was a Mom,
I cleaned my house each day.
I never tripped over toys or forgot words of Lullabies.

Before I was a Mom,
I had never been puked on, pooped on, spit on, chewed on, peed on or pinched by tiny fingers.

Before I was a Mom,
I had complete control of my thoughts, my body and my mind.
I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom,
I never held a screaming child so doctors could do tests or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom,
I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn’t want to put them down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces, when I couldn’t stop the hurt.
I never knew something so small could affect my life so much.
I never knew I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom,
I didn’t know the feeling of having my heart outside my body.
I never knew how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.
I didn’t know about that bond between a mother and her child.
I didn’t know something so small could make me feel so important.

Before I was a Mom,
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay. I have never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache, the wonder or the satisfaction of being a Mom.
I didn’t know I was capable of feeling so much before I was a Mom.

What Mums do

Cook and clean,
Wash and fold,
Keep me warm when I am cold.

Drive me here,
Take me there,
Mum, You sure are everywhere.

School and sports,
We have such fun,
And you’re there when our day is done.

Tuck me in
To bed so tight,
That is when we say goodnight.

“A Mothers Love”
by Helen Steiner Rice

A Mothers love is something that no one can explain.
It is made of deep devotion and of sacrifice and pain.

It is endless and unselfish and enduring comes what may.
For nothing can destroy it or take the love away……

It is patient and forgiving when all others are forsaking.
And it never fails or falters even though the heart is breaking…..

It believes beyond believing when the world around condemns,
And it glows with all the beauty of the rarest, brightest gems…..

It is far beyond defining. It defies all explanation. And it still remains a secret like the mysteries of creation….

A many splendour miracle men cannot understand and another wondrous evidence of God’s tender guiding hand.

In closing …

Mothers, never underestimate the impact you have on your child’s life.
Be Blessed all the moms this Mothers Day as you celebrate and never forget you have the most important role to play in your child’s life.

Wishing you a happy Mother’s Day.
